During this homily imagine Jesus is preaching to you (instead of me preaching) on the subject of His Kingship: (Allow Our Lord’s words to transform you. You may want to close your eyes).

“I only accepted the title of Kingship at a humiliating trial and nailed to a cross, to teach you that a Christian should only reign from the height of the Cross. My ‘coronation ceremony’ was the occasion of mockery and sarcasm on the party of My enemies, ‘All hail ‘King’ of the Jews,’ they said while mocking Me, their God. Immediately after I was scourged they ‘crowned’ Me, not with a crown of gold, but with a crown of cruel thorns. I was not cothed in fine robes, but was naked except for a piece of purple cloth and a mere reed as a ‘King’s Sceptre’ while they hailed Me ‘King’ and spat on Me and beat Me.

“Pilate insisted: ‘Shall I crucify your ‘King’?’ The ingratitude of the Jews broke My Heart, ‘We have no ‘King’ but Caesar. His blood be on us and on our children.’ ‘Crucify Him! Crucify Him! Crucify Him!’ Pilate, upon passing the sentence of death, declared, ‘Here is your ‘King,’ take Him away and crucify Him.’ On My Cross were printed the words, ‘King of the Jews.’

“All kings reign in palaces, I reign from a Cross. I desire suffering and humiliation as much as possible, because through the Cross I redeemed and sanctified you.

“Today My Precious Blood, spilt on Calvary, continues to pour over you. Your ‘King’ sheds it willingly to cleanse you and quench your thirst. At each moment to the end of time I, your ‘King,’ and Victim, willingly give My life for you, as if you were the only one alive. In fact, a true ‘King’ knows how to sacrifice Himself for His subjects, even when His subjects are disobedient to Him.

“As ‘King’ I do not call you slaves but friends as I did not come to be served, but to serve. I came as a ‘King’ – not to lord Myself over you but for you to be lord over Me. You cannot understand such humiliation. I ‘long’ to give Myself to you. Come close to your ‘heavenly crucified King’ present today in the Most Blessed Sacrament. Open your heart in adoration because I want to make you a perfect copy of Myself. A copy of humility, littleness, love and sacrifice. To be My heir is to share in My ‘Kingship.’ To enjoy everything, I am and have. To have the Holy Spirit work in you as powerfully as it worked through Me.

“The Apostles, James and John, asked Me if they could sit one on My right and one on My left in My Kingdom. I asked them if they were prepared to drink of the cup that I must drink.

Now I am asking you. Are you prepared to drink of the cup that I have drunk? In order to inherit My Kingdom, you must live as I lived while I was on earth. To live as I lived is to die to self as I did in order to live only for My Father. You may have desires – a desire for pleasure, a desire to be free of fear, a desire to be loved, etc…but you should only have one desire – to please My Father as much as possible.

“Any area of your life which causes you distress or fear is an area that you don’t believe I am king of. You have distress because you don’t believe that I have complete authority in your life, however nothing could be further from the truth. I am King of every area in your life and because of that, your joy should be complete. Likewise, I am King over the earth and you should not despair because of the present spiritual climate because I will return to re-establish once and for all My Kingdom where every knee will bow and every tongue will proclaim Me ‘King of Kings.’ ”

A plenary indulgence is granted to this prayer of consecration if it is recited publicly on the feast of Our Lord Jesus Christ the King (under the normal conditions).

Most Sweet Jesus, Redeemer of the human race, look down upon us humbly prostrate before You. We are Your and Yours we wish to be, but to be more united with You we freely consecrate ourselves today to Your Most Sacred Heart. Many indeed have never known You, many too despising Your precepts, have rejected You. Have mercy on them all, Most Merciful Jesus and draw them to Your Sacred Heart.

Be King O Lord, not only of the faithful who never forsake You, but also of the prodigal children who have abandoned You, grant that they may quickly return to their Father’s house, lest they die of wretchedness and hunger.

Be King of those who are deceived by erroneous opinions or whom discord keeps aloof and call them back to the harbour of truth and the unity of faith so that soon there may be but one flock and one Shepherd.

Grant, O Lord to Your Church assurance of freedom and immunity from harm, give tranquility of order to all nations, make earth resound from pole to pole with one cry:

Praise to the Divine Heart that wrought our salvation; to Him be glory and honour forever.
